2022 APA Final Review

We were thrilled to see many of you in Minneapolis in August for the APA convention! The theme for Division 54 programming was Shining the Spotlight on Pediatric Psychology Trainees and Early Career Investigators. We actively encouraged sessions that showcased cutting edge advances in Pediatric Psychology science and practice being spearheaded by the next generation. This exciting theme envisioned by Thomaseo Burton was developed to give an important platform for trainees and early career investigators that can be challenging to attain at other conferences. We also encouraged inclusion of moderators and discussants who are from more senior stages of the career spectrum. We made the call, and our society enthusiastically responded!

Our call was met with enthusiasm and resulted in a truly fantastic scientific program including a diverse array of symposia, skill building sessions, critical conversations, and poster sessions. Thanks to the incredible work of our members, we showcased a variety of topics across a wide range of pediatric populations including research and professional development issues addressing equity, diversity and inclusion, inpatient and primary care, breaking down barriers for early career women attaining NIH K-Awards, virtual care, grief, chronic pain, developmental disabilities, perinatal care, children with medical complexity, and family treatment for eating disorders.

For the first time, we combined forces with several other divisions related to child and family health and well-being and co-hosted a “Mega-Social Hour”. We see many opportunities to integrate and collaborate with colleagues in other divisions in the future.

We are a proud society, with much to be proud of! We send a sincere thanks to our SPP members for sharing their work and energy and time to make Division 54 shine and represent at the APA Convention!
