Neonatology Special Interest Group

The Neonatology SIG is offered to members of Div. 54 who work with or have an interest in families who have babies being cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Our mission is to offer a clearinghouse for people, information and ideas. Our hope is to use this group as a platform to plan for services that are supportive to families during this stressful time. Our goal is to offer a space for psychologists and others to discuss screening and treatment options available to parents while their child is in the NICU.

Membership

Membership to this SIG is open to those who work in the NICU, maternity units, labor and delivery units or associated areas. We encourage the participation of faculty, trainees, students and hospital/clinic-based practitioners.

Goals

The goals of the Neonatology SIG are to:

  • Identify gaps in the field of neonatology when it comes to supporting families.
  • Identify screening tools that are used for parents at-risk
  • Disseminate research and evidence-based approaches to assessment and intervention (borrowed from another)
  • Facilitate research and clinical collaborations across sites (e.g., share solutions, pool resources, establish multisite grant projects); borrowed these two (borrowed from another)

Activities

The Neonatology SIG will host its next meeting at the 2014 SPP conference in Philadelphia.
