SPPAC Location & Venue Selection
The Society of Pediatric Psychology Annual Conference location selection is based on a combination of practical, logistical, and experiential factors.
Key considerations include:
- Cost
- One of the main factors considered is the cost to hold the conference at each location. SPP continues to work hard to find venues that keeps SPPAC registration fees and hotel accommodation costs low.
- Date
- SPP carefully reviews the calendar to avoid conflicts for attendees. This conference has traditionally taken place in the Spring. SPP selects preferred dates based around holidays, other conferences that pediatric psychologists attend, and school breaks.
- Availability
- With over 1000 attendees, many venues do not have the meeting space and/or hotel accommodations required to have a successful SPPAC within our preferred dates.
- Accessibility to the venue and city
- SPP selects locations that can be easily flown to and that attendees can access quick and safe transportation to the conference venue from the airport. Each year, SPP tries to select a different region within the US to help with conference inclusivity and accessibility
- Safety and security
- A top priority of SPPAC is that all attendees can safely attend. This includes having locations that are walkable and where all people are welcome.
- Appeal of the destination
- SPP tries to select locations that have various cultural attractions, dining options, and entertainment that SPPAC attendees would be interested in.
