A review of 2014 and special issues with 2015 deadlines.

By Grayson N. Holmbeck, PhD

I am pleased to report that there were 310 papers submitted for publication in 2014. Also, in 2014, we published two special issues: “Quantitative Methodologies” (guest edited by Bryan Karazsia, PhD, and Kris Berlin, PhD, in issue 2) and “Evidence-Based Interventions in Pediatric Psychology” (guest edited by Tonya Palermo, PhD, in issue 8). The latter was published simultaneously with a related special issue in the Society of Pediatric Psychology’s new journal, Clinical Practice in Pediatric Psychology ( CPPP; guest edited by Bryan D. Carter, PhD). Also, in issue 9, we included a special section on Training in Pediatric Psychology. In total, we published: 14 systematic reviews, one “Pioneers in Pediatric Psychology” paper, two topical reviews, eight commentaries, 10 reviews of statistical methods, six “awards” papers and 60 regular articles.

Also, two special issues will appear early in 2015: Direct Observation Research in Pediatric Psychology (guest edited by Tim Wysocki, PhD; issue 1) and Peer Relations in Youth with Chronic Illness (guest co-edited by Vicki Helgeson, PhD, and Grayson Holmbeck, PhD; issue 3).

We recently passed deadlines for two other special issues: (a) Resilience in Youth with Chronic Illnesses or Developmental Disabilities and their Families (guest edited by Marisa Hilliard, PhD; Korey Hood, PhD; Laura Nabors, PhD; and Elizabeth McQuaid, PhD) and (b) Trauma and Child Health (guest edited by Annette La Greca, PhD; Jonathan Comer, PhD; and Betty Lai, PhD).

Finally, we are pleased to report that we have several special issues that have deadlines in 2015:

  • Diversity and Health Disparities (Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015; to be guest edited by Celia Lescano, PhD; Daphne Koinis-Mitchell, PhD; and Elizabeth McQuaid, PhD).

This special issue will be published in conjunction with special issues on the same topic in Clinical Practice in Pediatric Psychology ( CPPP ) and Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics ( JDBP ).

  • Psychology in Primary Care (Deadline: Dec. 1, 2015; to be guest edited by John Lavigne, PhD).

Also, please note that we have a new ongoing series in JPP: Historical Analysis in Pediatric Psychology. We already have two papers “in press” for this series. This is a special series of papers devoted to the history of pediatric psychology. Authors interested in submitting a paper for this series can contact the editor of JPP to discuss potential papers prior to submission. There is no deadline for these papers.

As always, I want to thank the Associate Editors for their remarkable work (Dean Beebe, John Lavigne, Tonya Palermo, Lori Stark, Ric Steele and Tim Wysocki) and Susan Wood for her excellent work as the editorial assistant for the journal.
