Carolina Maria Bejarano carolina.bejarano@ku.edu
Mission and Objectives:
The SPP Student subgroup of the Anti-racism workgroups has focused on creating space to process, learn from each other, and reflect on events and issues pertaining to structural racism from both personal and professional perspectives. We aim to foster psychological safety for participating SPP student and trainee members. Additionally, we have identified two main goals towards which we are actively progressing. The first is to create a “Student Needs Assessment” to gain and disseminate information about graduate school training experiences and self-identified needs for training in cultural competence/humility, diversity, and anti-racism. The second is to create active and sustainable collaborations with the Network of Campus Representatives and outreach efforts to work towards diversifying, supporting, and retaining the pool of trainees in the field of pediatric psychology. The group will continue meeting every third Wednesday of the month at 8 pm ET. The group is co-led by Lauren Wruble, Kristin Lee, and Carolina Bejarano. We welcome students and trainees at all levels who are interested in joining us in learning and unlearning, and would like to contribute to these efforts.
