Board of Directors Mid-Winter Meeting

By Erica Sood, PhD, and Wendy Ward, PhD

We had a productive and inspiring two-day virtual Board of Directors meeting this past January. Much of the meeting was dedicated to strategic planning, building on the work that was started at the 2020 Mid-Winter Meeting. With the help of Degnon Associates, SPP’s new association management company, we reorganized the strategic drivers developed at last year’s meeting into four strategic pillars aligned with SPP’s mission and vision: Membership; Education and Career Development; Science and Practice; Advocacy. We then identified four cross-cutting imperatives that need to be addressed within each pillar to achieve our goals: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; International; Career Span; Collaboration and Communication. In virtual breakout rooms, we brainstormed actionable objectives for each strategic pillar. Over the upcoming year, we will be finalizing the strategic plan to ensure that the SPP Board of Directors and Committees are working towards common goals and allocating time and resources towards those activities that are of highest priority for SPP.

We are excited to share these preliminary strategic pillars and cross-cutting imperatives with SPP members. We will continue to share specific details from the strategic planning process at SPPAC and in future editions of Progress Notes and welcome your thoughts and feedback.
